Zhiyun Tech has quite recently revealed an amazing new gimbal called the Crane 3S, which significantly increases the force and versatility of their popular Crane 3 LAB without surrendering much in the way of portability.
The Crane 3S is basically a larger, more impressive Crane 3 LAB that’s meant to handle beefier cameras. We’re talking digital cinema cameras from RED and Sony that you would normally mount on a large Ronin or MOVI.
It maintains the same basic handle structure as the Crane 3 LAB—allowing you to switch rapidly from regular carry to under-sling—however knocks the weight capacity of the motors to over 14lbs (6.5Kg), increases the quantity of mounting focuses from 3 to 9, and presents a modular plan for much more versatility. You can now broaden the arm for larger camera arrangements, and both the EasySling Handle and the SmartSling Handle (which incorporates camera controls) can be mounted at two unique focuses relying upon how you have to hold the gimbal.
Here’s a more intensive gander at the new gimbal in real life on a professional set, throwing around large cinema cameras and focal points effortlessly:
The idea behind the Crane 3S is to offer a more compact gimbal option that despite everything has the “umpf” to handle digital cinema cameras, and all of the professional-grade compatibility and features to work on a large-scale production.
Beyond the modular structure and higher payload, that means improved cross-compatibility with dollies, jibs, and cable cams, the addition of a DC-IN port, an upgraded zoom and center framework, a special TransMount Image Transmission System, and more.
While many of these advantages won’t do much for anyone who is already utilizing (and happy with) a framework like the Ronin S or the Crane 3 LAB, genuine filmmakers and cinema camera shooters will certainly appreciate the combination of intensity and portability that Zhiyun has managed to back into the new 3S.
The Crane 3S is available to order now, and should start dispatching immediately. You can get it in one of three packages: the “base model” with the EasySling handle for $650, a stage up to the SmartSling handle for $740, or the “Crane 3S Pro” arrangement with the SmartSling handle, Zoom and Focus Controllers, Image Transmitter and more for $1,150.
